Wines of Uruguay
Tannat is the emblematic wine grape variety of Uruguay. It is from the south-west of France and named like that for its important quantity of tannins. Canelones is the largest wine producer region and where most of the vineyards are located too. However, Montevideo is the second most important region of Uruguay.
The Uruguayan winegrowers are pioneers in organic practices. The quality of the wines is enviable and the production is quite limited. According to the 2017 statistical report of INAVI (National Institute of Viticulture of Uruguay), these are the general data of Uruguayan wines:
