The most planted grapes in Spain
Spain is the country with the largest area under vines with 975,000 hectares and represents 11% of the total vineyards in the world. It is interesting that the most planted grape of Spain was a white grape in a world where the trend is clearly defined to the red grapes and even more in a country which is more famous for its red wines than its white wines. However, Spain is not just a good wine producer, its a spirits good producer as well and that is what explains this opposite trend and Airen is a white grape very popular in the brandy industry. The next most planted grape is Tempranillo, the flag grape of Spain.
