Visit Château Pédesclaux
With a renovated wine cellar and a 19th-century castle that contrasts with the modernity of its façade, it captivates our eyes instantly. The kind and professional reception of the Technical Director of the property Vincent Bache-Gabrielsen with the exceptional vertical tasting of Chateau Pedesclaux make the visit just unforgettable.
Only half a mile from the Gironde estuary, the vineyards of Chateau Pedesclaux benefit from its shelter, being less prone to late frosts or hail. Its gravel soils on a limestone subsoil provide the vines with enough water to produce a good quality grape. It now cultivates 15% of the estate organically or using biodynamic methods combined with its gravity-fed winemaking system, cossets the wine from the vineyards until de bottling.
The property was classified as 5th grand cru classé in 1855, being the most important classification of Bordeaux. The influence of this classification remains one of the driving forces of the Bordeaux wine market.
After a tour of the modern and astonishing Chateau's facilities, we made the tasting of their wines in the renovated Tasting Room, space where modernity and tradition, minimalism and classicism are blended.
An extraordinary vertical tasting of Chateau Pédesclaux, from the 2009 vintage to 2016 (which was still in the barrel at the time), allowed us to identify the differences between the former owners and the technology investment of the current owners (Lorenzetti Family).
In addition, we could taste his second wine Fleur de Pédesclaux, an easy to drink wine in terms of intensity and structure but which maintains the same quality as the first wine.
At the same time, we have tasted three different vintages of Château Lilian-Ladouys of Saint Estèphe appellation, the other property of Lorenzetti Family. In these wines, we could also appreciate the commitment of these estates with the pure expression of the terroir. Chateau Pedesclaux makes its wines following a philosophy of respect for nature, modernity and constant progress.
