Most planted grapes in China

China is one of the strongest economies of the world and its viticulture is not an exception anymore. Today is the second largest country in area under vines with 847,000 hectares (11% of the global vineyard). However, the biggest part of the vineyards stills being dedicated to table grapes ( more than 62% of the Chinese cultivated area) and just a small part is dedicated to the wine production. Nevertheless, in the further years, we will see some changes around the wine production.


Here is the position of the 5 most planted grapes in China.MXLLS​​In hectares, (% of the total surface)

1.- Kyoho 372,680 (44%)

2.- Red Globe 152,460 (18%)

3.- Cabernet Sauvignon 59,290 (7%)

4.- Carmenere 8,871 (1%)

5.- Merlot 8,202 (1%)

Others 29% including table grapes and vitis vinifera.
